BURLINGTON,NC- The Pfeiffer softball team (25-22) split their two games of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Friday, losing to Belmont Abbey (21-21) 7-1. Pfeiffer struggled to get anything going offensively and the Crusaders took advantage of two, three runs innings.
The Falcons won game two thanks to some steller pitching from
Sydney Poole. Poole was on point the whole game throwing a complete game five hit shutout for the Falcons. Poole struck out three batters and didn't record a walk. Poole started the game retiring the first 12 batters she faced and picked up her ninth win of the season.
The Falcons struck first when
Khristin Isley hit a solo home run (3) in the top of the third inning, giving Pfeiffer a 1-0 lead. The Crusaders struck back scoring three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Pfeiffer stranded seven runners on base, including the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
Belmont Abbey pitcher Samantha Jackson pitched a complete game, allowing only one run of five hits and striking out eight.
Game two, was scoreless going into bottom of the fifth inning, when Russell hit an RBI double to right center field scoring Isley from second base. Crowder started the sixth inning with a ground rule double and advanced third on a double by
Jaclyn Boever.
Chandler Walker, scored them both with a two RBI double of the right field fence, giving the Falcons a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Pfeiffer advances in the conference tournament and will play King tomorrow at 10 a.m.
