BURLINGTON, NC- It was a long hard fought day for the Pfeiffer softball team (27-23) as their fantastic run came to an end on Saturday night. The Falcons started the day at 10 in the morning with an 8-4 win over King. In game two Pfeiffer persevered through two rain delays. The longest of which was a one hour and 34 minute stoppage in the top of the first inning, in an 8-1 victory over Belmont Abbey. Pfeiffer conclude a 12 hour day of softball with a 7-4 loss to North Greenville.
Pfeiffer struck first in the top of the second inning when the Falcons scored on a throwing error and then on a
Sadie Saine RBI single up the middle that scored
Jaclyn Boever from third base. King tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pfeiffer answered right back in the top of the fifth inning with three runs of their own, highlighted by a two RBI single by
Julie Bullington. King fought back with a two run home run in the fifth to cut the Falcon lead to 5-4.
Chandler Walker delivered the game-winning blow with a three run blast in the top of the seventh inning to right center field, extending the Falcons lead to 8-4.
Sam Jarmusch picked up her ninth win of the season. Through the first three innings, Jarmusch retired nine consecutive batters.
Kristin Durant came in and slammed the door on the Tornado, picking up her fourth save of the season.
Bullington led the way for Pfeiffer going 3-for-3 on the day and driving in two runs. Saine and Boever each recorded two hits in the victory.
Sydney Poole followed up her shutout yesterday with a dominating complete game against Belmont Abbey. Poole only allowed one run, which was a home run and seven hits. She started the game off retiring the first nine hitters she faced, and totaled 10.5 scoreless innings going back to yesterday's contest. Poole Struck out three batters, while picking up her tenth win of the season.
The Falcons loaded the bases in the first inning, when the rains came brining a one hour and 38 minute delay. Bullington was not phased and after the stoppage, she hit a bases clearing 3 RBI single giving Pfeiffer a 3-0 lead. The Falcons followed up three run first, with a three run second inning, highlighted by a two run home run by
Jessica Jackson(5). In the top of the seventh
Khristin Isley drove in two runs with a double down the left field line extending Pfeiffer's lead to 8-1.
The Falcons recorded 13 hits as a team, Saine and Boever had three hits apiece, While Isley drove in three runs.Â
North Greenville struck first in the top of the second inning scoring a run with two outs. The Falcons wasted no time tying the game up in the home half of the inning. Crowder doubled and then later scored following a Boever single and throwing error. The Crusaders tacked on four more runs in the third inning on three hits. NGU then hit a two run blast in the fifth inning extending their lead to 7-1.
Pfeiffer loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth following singles by Jackson, Crowder, and a walk by Russell. Bullington then drew a bases loaded walk, followed by a two RBI single by Boever cutting NGU's lead to 7-4. The Falcons could not push anymore runs across and stranded runners on second and third.
Bullington had a fantastic tournament recording four hits and six RBI's. Saine contributed with six hits and two runs scored and Isley added five hits, scored three runs and drove in four run for the Falcons
This concludes what was a great season for the Falcons. For the first time since 2011 Pfeiffer won two games in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Falcons 27 wins this season, is the most victories since winning 30 in 2008.
