MISENHEIMER, NC- The offense struggled for the Pfeiffer softball team (22-17, 9-5 CC) as they were swept by Belmont Abbey (16-19, 10-4 CC) on Wednesday afternoon. In game one, the Falcons were held to only seven hits and couldn't push across any runs in a 7-0 loss. In the second game Pfeiffer couldn't overcome a Crusaders five run third inning dropping game two, 5-3.
In the opener, Belmont Abbey started the scoring in the third inning as the Crusaders scored four runs off four hits. Crusaders starting pitcher Sam Jacobs kept the Pfeiffer hitters guessing all day throwing a complete game shutout. Sadie Saine and Chandler Walker each had two hits in the game and Jessica Jackson added one hit for the Falcons.
The third inning was a big inning again for Belmont Abbey in game two scoring five runs, three of those runs came off a Jena Reisenauer three-run homerun. Pfeiffer pushed three runs across in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI double by Lindsey Russell to left center field. A Rachel Crowder groundout scored Russell from third base, however Pfeiffer could not push anymore runs across.
Jackson went 3-for-4 in game two and recorded four hits on the day. Russell added two more hits and drove in one run and Rebecca Foil contributed two hits for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer recorded ten hits in the second game, but searched for the one big hit stranding nine runners on base.
Pfeiffer returns home on Sunday, April 12 for a senior day doubleheader against Mount Olive. First pitch is set for noon.
