WILSON, NC – The Pfeiffer Falcons (7-4-1, 6-1 CC) remained in a second place tie in the Conference Carolinas standings with a big win over the Barton Bulldogs (5-6, 4-3 CC) on Wednesday night as Ryanna Hammond scored two times in the 5-0 victory. The Falcons kept pace with Belmont Abbey and remain a game out of first place.
"I'm very proud of the way the girls came out tonight," commented Head Coach Robyn Horner after the match. "They played with a lot of heart and intensity. Their composure in the final third showed in the goals that they scored and they did everything as a coaching staff that we asked them to do. It was a true team effort."
At the 15 minute mark of the first half, Hailey Havelind sent a through ball into Hammond to the far left wing and the sophomore was able to place it in the top right corner of the net as Pfeiffer took the early 1-0 lead.
Hammond struck again in the 36th minute as the cross from Aryana Harvey was placed perfectly into Hammond who beat Barton goalkeeper Hailey Sauls. 38 seconds later, Kat Kelley scored her third goal in the past two games as she took the pass from senior Kirsten Martin and found the back of the net.
After a Barton own goal, freshman Aryana Harvey scored Pfeiffer's fifth goal of the night and her sixth of the season as she got through the Bulldog defenders and beat backup goalkeeper Alison Bell. Harvey has now scored in four straight matches.
Pfeiffer never looked back as goalkeepers Kaley Hyatt and Deidre Gilley combined for the fourth shutout of the season.
With Hammond's two scores on the evening, it gives her three multi-goal games on the year.
Barton managed just three shots on the night as Pfeiffer dominated with 28. Tonight was the fourth match in a row that Pfeiffer has attempted at least 19 shots.
Pfeiffer returns home on Saturday for Senior Night as 17 Falcons will be honored at N.E. Lefko Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
