Falcons Historic Season Comes to A Close in 1-0 Loss to Armstrong St.

Box Score

Jeremy Zalacca - Director of Athletic Communications

SAVANNAH, GA - The Pfeiffer Falcons (39-17) saw their record-breaking season come to a close in a 1-0 loss in the Southeast Regional Final to Armstrong St. (38-12) on Saturday afternoon. Pirate pitcher Tori Bates tossed a one-hitter as Armstrong St. advanced to next week's Super Regional.

Callie Kuykendall continued her tremendous string of postseason pitching as the freshman allowed just one run on six hits while striking out seven batters. Kuykendall walked just one batter and went 5-2 in postseason games for the Falcons.

Senior outfielder Jaclyn Boever pinch hit in the sixth inning and broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff single. Boever was bunted to second but would be stranded there as Bates got the next two batters to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kiana Millsaps crushed a ball to right field but the Pirates outfielder made a leaping grab to rob Millsaps of an extra base hit. In the next inning, designated player Autumn Parish connected on a solo home run to lead off the top of the fifth which accounted for the only run of the game.

Despite the loss, this Falcons team was one of the best in program history. The 39 wins shattered the previous record for most wins in a season (30) and the .696 winning percentage is the second best mark in history.

Freshman shortstop Vada Blue Sherrill crushed a handful of records in her outstanding rookie campaign. Sherill broke the single season record for: walks, hits, stolen bases and on base percentage and was second in runs batted in. Catcher Rachel Crowder finished second in most hits in a season and most total bases in a season. In the circle, Kuykendall's 1.52 earned run average was the second lowest in Pfeiffer history.

The loss ends the careers of three Pfeiffer standouts. Boever, Jessica Jackson and Sam Jarmusch have helped turn the program around. The trio won more games in their season season (39) than they did in their freshman and sophomore seasons combined (38).
