FERRUM, VA – Though Pfeiffer (2-19) dropped both of their matches on Saturday afternoon to William Peace (15-16) and to the host school, Ferrum (5-20), the Falcons made it interesting in the second match of the day against the Panthers as they took the third set of the match 25-23. Erin Errington had three of her nine kills in set three and Katie Anne Wilson had seven of her team-high 19 assists. Emma Gray Beacham added 27 digs which ties her four fourth all-time in single match.
The Falcons dropped the first two sets by the score of 25-14, 25-17 but came back to take the aforementioned third set as the Falcons jumped out to an early 7-1 lead. That early stretch forced Ferrum coach, Ruthanne Duffy to call timeout as her team made three costly errors. Pfeiffer was able to hold the lead throughout the set and take the victory as Sam Smith added her two of her six kills, Bri Weber added three more and Wilson had her only service ace in the match.
The Panthers bounced back after the set four defeat to take the set 25-15 and the match. Cheyenne Strickland had 25 kills in the match as she hit .556 and added 13 assists. Camryn Holt led all players in the match with 22 assists.
In match one the day, the Falcons fell in three to the William Peace Pacers. Set one saw Pfeiffer jump out to a quick 3-2 lead and remain close until the Pacers pulled away with five consecutive points with the help of Liana Solomon's two kills.
Just as Pfeiffer was out of the set early, they fought back and scored five consecutive of their own as Kaylee Freed, Sam Smith, and Wilson added kills to make it 14-12. Falcons still down, but still very close at 23-19, Sam Smith added the last point for Pfeiffer in the set with her second kill in the first stanza. The Pacers were able to hold on and score the two points to win the set 25-20 and the last two 25-10, 25-18.
Again Errington led Pfeiffer in kills for the match and tied for the match-high with eight and Wilson had 12 assists.
Hailey Stout and Solomon also tied for the match-high of eight kills. Solomon had a match-high 13 assists and Breanna Cary had ten.
Pfeiffer returns to action this Wednesday as they host Salem inside Merner Gymnasium with a 7 p.m. start time.
