Box Score Southern Virginia Takes Win Over Pfeiffer Men's Lacrosse
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 4, 2020) – Visiting Southern Virginia University used a huge second quarter to down Pfeiffer University in a nonconference men's lacrosse game on Wednesday afternoon at Lefko Field.
Pfeiffer senior attacker Jared Nelson (Vestal, N.Y.) put the Falcons up early by scoring the game's first goal, unassisted, at the 12:01 mark. Southern Virginia then reeled off four straight goals, with a pair scored by Zach Danneman to take the 4-1 lead after the first period.
The Knights then exploded in the second quarter, scoring the first five of the frame to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Pfeiffer's Luke Cox (Winston-Salem, N.C.) scored his third goal of the season on a pass from Treven King (Apex, N.C.) to stop the SVU scoring streak and to bring the score to 9-2 with 8:06 to play.
With SVU up 11-2, freshman Quinn Becraft (Huntersville, N.C.) supplied a pair of assists on goals from Nelson and King to bring the game to 11-4. SVU then scored five more goals to take the 16-4 halftime lead. All told, SVU outscored Pfeiffer 12-3 in the second quarter.
Nelson supplied the first pair of goals in the third quarter, making it 16-6, but SVU pushed their lead to 22-6 by the end of the quarter.
IN the fourth, Pfeiffer scored the first six goals, receiving scores from Nelson (1), King (2), Becraft (2) and Cox (1) before SVU's Tennison Schmidt scored to make it 23-13. Becraft and King then added two late goals to provide the 23-14 final.
Nelson led the way for Pfeiffer by scoring five goals and supplying three assists while scooping up a pair of ground balls. King had four goals and a pair of assists to go along with two ground balls. Becraft secured five points while scoring three times and dishing two assists. Becraft also caused a turnover and had two ground balls while Cox scored two points on his two goals.
The loss drops the Falcons to 1-3 overall while Southern Virginia improves to 5-1.
Pfeiffer will look to bounce back with a USA South home game against Averett at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.
