Box Score Pfeiffer Earns Big Men's Lacrosse Win Over Averett
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 7, 2020) – The Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team used 13 first half goals en route to a convincing 23-6 win over visiting Averett University in the USA South opener for both teams at Lefko Field on Saturday afternoon.
Pfeiffer wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard when freshman Quinn Becraft scored with 12:42 on the first quarter clock. Sophomore Treven King added a goal followed by Becraft's second of the game to bolt to the 3-0 lead. John Allen would then sandwich two goals around a Jared Nelson tall to go up 6-0. Becraft would then get this third of the game with just 24 seconds remaining in the quarter to put the Falcons up 7-0.
Allen would open the second quarter with three straight goals followed by another pair by Becraft to take the 12-0 lead. Nelson would add an unassisted goal to go up 13-0 but Averett would find their first goal with 10 seconds before halftime on a Parker Corbett tally, providing the 13-1 halftime score.
Four Pfeiffer goals started the third quarter, but Corbett added his second and third goals of the game to make it 17-3. Another pair of Allen goals in the waning seconds of the quarter boosted Pfeiffer's lead to 19-3.
A score from Declan McHugh started the scoring in the fourth followed by the first career goal from Peter Donahue made it 21-3. Bailey Coltman and Jhazz Showard rounded out the scoring for Pfeiffer while Averett's Mike Michaud and Brenner Woodcock provided the 23-6 final.
All told, every available player for Pfeiffer saw action in the lopsided win. As a team, Pfeiffer outshot the Cougars 51-24 and also held a 51-30 advantage in ground ball pickups while forcing 38 turnovers.
The win improves the Falcons to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in USA South play while Averett drops to 0-6 and 0-1.
Pfeiffer will hit the road for a nonconference matchup with Guilford College on Wednesday, March 11 at 4:00 p.m. at Guilford's Armfield Athletic Complex in Greensboro, N.C.
