Cold Shooting Dooms Pfeiffer Women in 67-49 Loss to Guilford

Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 15, 2021) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team missed their first five shots from the field and allowed Guilford to bolt to a 13-3 lead to start the game, eventually falling to the Quakers 67-49 at Merner Gym on Monday night.

As a team, Pfeiffer struggled, shooting just 19.5% (16-of-82) from the field and 14% (6-of-43) from long range.

The Falcons also were forced into 17 turnovers that translated to  19 points for the visiting Quakers.

Guilford also had a decidedly lopsided advantage on the boards, as they outrebounded the Falcons 80-52.

After leading 29-12 at the end of the first quarter, Guilford stretched the lead to 41-24 at halftime.

Guilford would lead by as many as 29 points (60-31) at the 9:19 mark of the fourth quarter.  Pfeiffer would never trim the lead to fewer than 21 points until a late basket by Brittany Mills (Lillington, N.C.) provided the 67-49 final.

Pfeiffer freshman Tanaeshea Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) led the way with 10 points while teammates Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) and Angel Roland (Monroe, N.C.) each secured 10 rebounds.

Guilford had four players in double-figures with Lindsay Gauldin, Abby Kennedy, and Courtney McMillan each registering double-doubles.  Gauldin had 17 points and 12 rebounds, Kennedy finished with 10-points and 13 rebounds and McMillan scoring 11 while hauling in 12 rebounds.

J'La Hinson also had a good night for the Quakers, as she finished with 16 points.

The loss drops Pfeiffer to 1-1 on the season while Guilford secures their first win of the season, improving to 1-0.

Pfeiffer will look to shake off the rough outing on Wednesday, Nov. 17 when they host Virginia University of Lynchburg in a 7:00 p.m. game at Merner Gym.
