Freshman Trio Spark Pfeiffer Women to an 86-72 Win Over Johnson & Wales

Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 19, 2021) – Pfeiffer University placed three freshman players in double figures and shot 48% from the field en route to an 86-72 win over visiting Johnson & Wales University on Friday night at Merner Gym.

Pfeiffer (3-1) wasted no time in quickly building a 7-0 lead to start the game as freshman Tanaeshea Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) nailed a three-pointer for the first points of the game. Ellison would add a pair of fast break layups following Wildcat misses to force a JWU timeout at 8:33.

After going ahead 12-2 on a Mya Johnson (Roxboro, N.C.) jumper, JWU put together a 10-2 run to close to 14-12.

JWU claimed the 18-16 win at the 1:51 mark of the first quarter but the Falcons regained the lead at 22-18 to end the quarter.  Pfeiffer would never trail again and would build the lead to 48-37 at the break.

Pfeiffer would lead by as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter and eventually took the 86-72 win.

Ellison led all scorers with a career-high 19 points as she went 9-of-11 from the field while dishing a pair of assists.

Fellow freshman Brittany Mills (Lillington, N.C.) netted a career-high 11 points and Kenadie Hudler (Jefferson, N.C.)  finished with 10 points in the win.

JWU, which lost for the first time this season, got 14 points from Ke'Airra Gregory while three other Wildcats managed 12 points each.

The Falcons will begin USA South play on Tuesday, Nov. 23 with a road game at Averett.  Tipoff from Danville, Va. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Grant Center.
