Box Score Pfeiffer Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Match to N.C. Wesleyan
Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 27, 2021) – The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to visiting N.C. Wesleyan in a USA South match at Lefko Field on Saturday afternoon.
After battling through a scoreless first half, the Bishops tallied the lone goal of the afternoon when Jack Holden scored after catching the ball on a rebound after teammate Lorenzo Cocchia's shot hit the left post. Holden collected the ball in traffic and was able to beat Pfeiffer goalkeeper Johvany Herrera (Concord, N.C.) on a low shot at the 51:03 mark.
Pfeiffer did have some good looks on goal despite the worsening field conditions, with perhaps the best opportunity coming when senior Caleb Bratager (Wake Forest, N.C.) unleased a low shot that NCWC goalkeeper Matteo Torchio stopped.
NCWC held a 19-9 advantage and a 6-4 cushion in corner kicks on the afternoon.
Herrera made six saves in goal for the Falcons while the Bishops' Torchio made five.
With the setback, Pfeiffer drops to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in USA South play while NCWC improves to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in conference matches.
The Falcons will hit the road for their next match when they travel to Greensboro on March 6 for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Pride.
