Box Score 2 Pfeiffer Baseball Splits Sunday Doubleheader at Methodist
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 7, 2021) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team split a Sunday afternoon nonconference doubleheader at Methodist.

Game 1 (7 innings)
Pfeiffer would take the early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Brady Parker (Oakboro, N.C.) delivered an RBI single, scoring Jake Brown (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Brown lead off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a Blake Winebarger (Yadkinville, N.C.) single two batters later. A walk issued to Austin Morton (Jacksonville, Fla.) would load the bases, paving the way for Parker's RBI single.
A Falcon error in the fifth inning enabled the Monarchs to put a runner on third base. A sacrifice bunt would score, tying the game at 1-1.
The Monarchs would hit a leadoff double in the sixth inning and the run would come around to score on another Falcon miscue, with Methodist going up 2-1.
Pfeiffer would go down in order in the seventh, ending the game.
Jacob Landis (Gastonia, N.C.) pitched six innings for Pfeiffer allowing just three hits and striking out three.
Game 2 (9 innings)
Pfeiffer again jumped on the Monarchs early when Winebarger delivered a two-run single in the first. After Methodist scored in the second, Pfeiffer plated two runs in the fourth inning to go up 4-1. Morton would deliver an RBI single followed by a Bryce Marsh (Asheboro, N.C.) RBI single. Noah Handy (Burlington, N.C.) hit a sacrifice fly that would score Kyler Fairchild (Taylorsville, N.C.) in the fifth inning to stake the Falcons to a 5-1 lead.
Pfeiffer erupted in the seventh when fielder's choice allowed a run to score followed by a sacrifice fly from Morton. Brown the blasted a three-run shot to left field, putting Pfeiffer up 10-2. The home run was Brown's second of the season.
Methodist would score three runs in the seventh on a triple from Will Dagenhart, trimming the Falcon lead to 10-5.
A Methodist error in the ninth led to the Falcons putting an insurance marker on the board, 11-5.
The Monarchs were then retired in order in the ninth as Dakota Caughey (Gastonia, N.C.) struck out two batters and forcing a groundout to end the game.
Nate Ray (Asheboro, N.C.) got the win on the mound for the Falcons, throwing 5.2 innings while allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five Methodist batters.
