Box Score Ninth-Ranked N.C. Wesleyan Downs Pfeiffer Baseball
Misenheimer, N.C. (April 9, 2021) – Visiting N.C. Wesleyan, ranked ninth in the latest D3Baseball.com poll downed Pfeiffer University in the first game of a USA South baseball series, 18-1 at Joe Ferebee Field on Friday afternoon.

How it Happened
The visiting Bishops plated five runs in the first inning, three of which came on a three-run homer by Brad Pennington.
NCWC added three runs in the second and two more runs crossed in the third inning to make it 10-0.
Down 11-0, Pfeiffer did avoid the shutout in the fifth. Kyler Fairchild (Taylorsville, N.C.) hit a leadoff double down the left field line and later scored on a Blake Winebarger (Yadkinville, N.C.) RBI single, making it 11-1.
NCWC then used a six-run outburst in the eighth inning that included a home run from Jackson Murray to extend the lead to 17-1. Another blast in the ninth from Zach Lyon provided the eventual 18-1 win for NC Wesleyan.
Austin Morton (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a pair of extra base hits on the day, finishing with a double and a triple while going 2-of-3 from the dish. Winebarger went 2-of-4 with an RBI while Fairchild scored the only Falcon run after going 3-of-4 from the plate.

Pfeiffer will look to shake off the rough outing in game one, when they host the Bishops on Sunday, April 11 in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
