St. John Fisher Trips Up Pfeiffer Men's Basketball, 79-74
Virginia Beach, Va. (Nov. 11, 2022) – Despite hitting 10 three-pointers, the Pfeiffer men's basketball team fell to St. John Fisher College by a 79-74 score in the first game of the Townebank Tip-Off hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University.
The Falcons (1-1) got a team-high 14 points from
Clayton Robinson (Charlotte, N.C.), as he went 5-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-4 from three-point range. He was also a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line.Â
Daymon Beckwith (Jacksonville, N.C.) also continued his early season success by scoring 12 points, dishing a pair of assists while bringing down five rebounds.
Trailing 72-68 late in the second half, Pfeiffer's
M.J. Armstrong (Gastonia, N.C.) connected on a pair of free throws at the 2:45 mark to draw the Falcons to 72-70. St. John Fisher pushed the lead to 74-70, but an Armstrong basket at 2:01 again trimmed the lead to just two points (74-72).
A free throw at 36 seconds provide SJFC with the 78-72 lead, but Pfeiffer's
Marcos Martinez (Orlando, Fla.) drew to 78-74 with a layup at 31 seconds. The Falcons were not able to score the remainder of the game with St. John Fisher getting the 79-74 win.
Pfeiffer will take on Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon in game three of the Townebank Tip-Off at 1:00 p.m.
