Pfeiffer Softball Splits Doubleheader at Brevard
Brevard, N.C. (Feb. 15, 2022) – Visiting Pfeiffer University dropped the opening game of a nonconference doubleheader in extra innings then took a 9-1 run-rule win over Brevard on Tuesday afternoon at the Brevard Softball Field in Brevard, N.C.

How it Happened – Game 1
Senior
Caiti Mickles (Boonville, N.C.) delivered a two-run double to left center field in the third inning to put the Falcons on top 2-0. Brevard would score a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning, the first after a Pfeiffer error and the tying run when Brevard roped a triple to center field.
Pfeiffer would regain the 3-2 lead in the seventh inning when a Kyndle Warren gound out allowed
Emma Bullin to score from third.
Brevard then was able to tie it in the seventh on a single to left field.
In the extra frame, Pfeiffer would be the victim of a double play that ended the Falcon half of the inning. Brevard then was able to use a walk off double in the eight to take the 4-3 win.
Game 2
Pfeiffer's bats came alive in the second game, highlighted by a grand slam from freshman
Gracie Griffin (Calabash, N.C.) in the third inning, her first career homer, that would give the Falcons the 5-0 lead. After Brevard made it 5-1 in the third inning, Pfeiffer tacked on four more runs in the fourth to make it 9-1.
Mickles had a two-RBI double, her second two-bagger of the game to highlight the Falcon fourth.
Ashlyn Kennedy (New London, N.C.) pitched a complete game to earn the win, improving her record to 2-0 on the season. She allowed just one run and struck out three Tornado batters in game two.

Pfeiffer will regroup and will return to Misenheimer to host Alma College in the home opener on Feb. 22. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at
Jack Ingram Field.
