Bats Come Alive in Pfeiffer Baseball's 17-7 Win Over Roanoke
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 3, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team opened their 2022 season at Berry College, dropping three games to the host Vikings in the season opening series.

How it Happened
Visiting Roanoke jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and held the Pfeiffer bats silent over the first two innings. The Maroons added four more in the third inning to boost their lead to 6-0.
Pfeiffer scratched a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on a RBI double from
Blake Winebarger followed by an RBI single from
Landon Evans.
Pfeiffer continued to chip away at the Roanoke lead, adding three more runs in the fourth inning, the first coming on an
Alec Bell single that scored
Austin Morton.Â
Jacob Williamson followed with an RBI single. Williamson would later score on a wild pitch to draw the Falcons to within 6-5.
Roanoke added a run in the fifth on an Owen Lawn home run to make it 7-5.
Another Winebarger RBI made it 7-6 in the sixth inning.
Pfeiffer would then explode in the seventh inning, pushing eight runs across.Â
Zach Ferrell belted his second home run of the season, a three-run shot that made it 14-7. An Evans triple in the eighth inning scored two more for the Falcons to make it 16-7. Evans would later score on a wild pitch to provide the eventual 17-7 final.

Dakota Caughey would sit Roanoke down in order in the ninth to close the game, sending the Falcons to the win in their first home game of the season.
Right-hander
Josh Topper struck out six batters in 2.2 innings while
Grayson Huneycutt earned the win on the mound for the Falcons.

Pfeiffer will travel to Guilford College on Saturday, March 5 for a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Greensboro.
