RALEIGH, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University volleyball team closed out the weekend with a pair of straight set loses to Maryville College and Lynchburg University.
Against Maryville, the Falcons started out slow and dropped the first set 25-16 before forcing the Scots to earn the victory. Maryville (6-2) won sets two and three by scores of 25-23 and 25-26, respectively.
Pfeiffer carried over the strong play to their second match of the day narrowly losing set one against Lynchburg (4-1) 25-22 before gassing out as dropping the final two sets 25-17 and 25-16.
Madison Honeycutt had an outstanding performance offensively in both contests combining for 24 kills in 73 attacks with just seven attack errors. Honeycutt put down 10 kills against Maryville and 24 against Lynchburg. Kylee Mayberry dished out 13 assists while Kira Suttles added 12 of her own in the loss to Maryville. Suttles returned the favor and led the way against Lynchburg with 15 assists to Mayberry's 13.
Gabby Edwards was the only Falcon to record double-digit digs in either contest. Edwards, a freshman from Catawba, N.C., recorded 14 against Maryville and 19 against Lynchburg for 102 digs just seven matches into the season.
Pfeiffer (1-6) recorded six service aces in each match with Mayberry leading the Lynchburg match with three and Madison Halsey collecting three against Maryville.
UP NEXT: Pfeiffer will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., on Wed., Sept. 13 to take on Carolina University before Carolina University and Ferrum College on Sat., Sept. 17 at Merner Gym.
