Pfeiffer Men's Tennis Scores Big Wins at Hilton Head
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 16, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University men's tennis team secured three big wins during their recent spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C.
Before embarking on the trip, Pfeiffer enjoyed an 8-1 home win over Penn State Behrend.
The Falcons then reeled off three straight wins in the Palmetto State, downing Marietta 9-0, Messiah 8-1, Lebanon Valley, 9-0 before concluding their trip with a competitive match with Eastern Nazarene, falling 6-3.
Individually,
Benedikt Pfeiffer (Schliersee, Germany) is currently riding a five-match singles win streak playing a mixture at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. In doubles play, he has paired with teammate
Aleix Garrido (Catalunya, Spain) to win four of their past five matches. Garrido has also posted a 6-2 doubles record in dual matches this spring at the No. 2 position, winning five with Pfeiffer and two with
Andres Valdez-Arze (Bogota, Bolivia).
Senior
Dylan Masters (Mooresville, N.C.) has also seen great success in singles play, winning six of his past seven since the spring season started at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. On the recent trip, he teamed with
Michael Haranczyk (Mississauga, Ontario) to claim three of the four contested No. 1 doubles matches in Hilton Head.
Freshman
Mateo Sonaglia (La Paz, Bolivia) was named USA South Rookie of the Week on March 6 after earning a 2-0 singles record at the number-six position for the Falcons. Sonaglia's wins were against opposition from Penn State-Behrend and Marietta.
Laurin Rauer (Melle, Germany) has claimed four of his past five singles matches at No. 3 while Valdez-Arze has also won four of his past five singles matches while playing primarily at No.. 4.
Lastly, freshman
Bogdan Stan (Kitchener, Ontario) has been impressive as he has posted an 8-2 singles record in dual matches playing at the No. 3, 4 and 5 positions.

As a team, Pfeiffer owns a 5-3 overall mark in dual matches. The Falcons will jump into USA South play this upcoming Saturday, March 18 with a road trip to Mary Baldwin for a 1:00 p.m. match. Pfeiffer will then head home to take on league-favorite N.C. Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19.
