Pfeiffer Baseball Completes Sweep Over William Peace
Misenheimer, N.C. (April 16, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team won both ends of a doubleheader to complete the series sweep of William Peace University on a pleasant Sunday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field.
Game One
After each team scored one run in the first inning, WPU took the 3-1 lead in the fourth on a pair of solo home runs from Hunter Ward and Sean Roseborough.
Pfeiffer then teed off on WPU pitching in the fifth, plating five runs to take the 6-3 lead.
Cory Lackey started things off with an RBI double followed by a
Jake Brown RBI double down the third base line that tied the game at 3-3.
Brady Parker then belted a three-run home run to right field to take the 6-3 lead. Pfeiffer then got a sacrifice fly from
Zach Ferrell in the sixth inning to provide the 7-3 final.

Thad Lewis would toss eight innings, allowing three runs on three hits. WPU's
Jack McIntosh was tagged with the loss after getting lit up by the Pfeiffer offense to the tune of seven runs, all of which were earned, and seven hits. Of the seven hits, five went for extra bases.
Game Two
Pfeiffer continued the offensive onslaught in game two, as the Falcons roughed up WPU pitching the third and fourth innings to jump to a 5-0 lead.
Jake Brown delivered a sacrifice fly in the third to put Pfeiffer up 1-0. The Falcons benefitted on a fielding error and throwing error from the WPU third baseman on the same play, allowing a pair to cross the plate to make it 3-0.
Another WPU error in the fourth inning allowed Pfeiffer to take the 4-0 lead, then a
Zach Ferrell groundout pushed the lead to 5-0.
WPU did cut the Falcon lead to 5-3 in the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles and also scored on a Pfeiffer throwing error.
A wild pitch in the seventh inning drew WPU to within 5-4 ,but in the seventh inning, Alex Bell ripped a two RBI single that provided the 7-4 score.

Adam Bridgeman entered the game in the eighth inning and allowed just two hits in two innings of work while striking out four WPU batters in earning the save and sending the Falcons to the series sweep.
Sam Safrit earned the win in tossing 2.1 innings giving up one run on just two hits.
The Falcons improve to 11-15 overall and 7-7 in SUA South play while WPU falls to 16-16 overall and 8-7 in league play.
Pfeiffer will travel to Greensboro on Tuesday evening to complete the three-game USA South series with Greensboro College. The two teams split the earlier two games before the scheduled third game was postponed due to rainy weather.
