FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 31, 2024) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team kept Methodist to just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc in a 2-for-12 shooting performance on the way to a 91-73 victory over the Monarchs on the road Wednesday in Fayetteville, N.C.
The Falcons (8-8, 5-3) had four players score in double figures, led by junior Daymon Beckwith, who had 18 points and five assists.Fellow junior teammate Alex Cunningham tacked on 17 points from the bench and Clayton Robinson chipped in as well with 10 points off the bench.
Pfeiffer out-rebounded Methodist 41-24 in Wednesday's game, paced by 10 boards from senior Rashamel Butler. The Falcons also collected 14 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second chance points.
The Pfeiffer defense caused major problems for the Monarchs in Wednesday's game, forcing 16 turnovers and converting those takeaways into 19 Falcon points  Junior Daniel Fulp led the way individually for the Falcons with two steals.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 38-32 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 13-0 run with 3:41 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Robinson, to increase its lead to 51-32, a score that would hold until halftime. Pfeiffer did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 30 of its 51 points close to the basket.
Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Beckwith's layup, to grow the lead to 75-53 with 8:55 to go in the contest. The Monarchs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 91-73 win. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 20 of its 40 total points.
