Pfeiffer Men's Soccer Comes Up Short at SVU

Buena Vista, Va. (Oct. 25,2024) -- The Pfeiffer men's soccer team fell to Southern Virginia by a 5-3 score on Friday afternoon at Knights Stadium.

The loss dropped Pfeiffer's record to 4-8-3 overall and 1-4-1 in USA South action while SVU improves to 8-4-2 overall and 3-3 in league matches.

How it Happened

Southern Virginia grabbed a 1-0 lead when Benjamin Simister scored in the eighth minute on an assist from Zach Bartholomew.

The Knights would extend their lead to2-0 on a goal from Evan Catten in the 28th minute.

Southern would then jump to a 3-0 lead on Landon Stock's 50th-minute goal with the assist credited to Shawn Curtis.  Another Knight score made it a 4-0 lead with a 50th-minute goal from Simister, assisted by Dante Leguizamon.

Pfeiffer got on the scoreboard on Diego Medel's fourth goal of the season in the 60th minute, assisted by Nico Cantini.

The Falcons narrowed the Knights' advantage to 4-2 thanks to a 65th-minute goal from Wesley Hooker, his third goal of the season, followed by a 65-th minute score from Jacob Rocha, his second goal of the season that trimmed the SVU ead to 4-3.

An 86th-minute goal from SVU's Brock Hester capped the scoring, providing the eventual 5-3 final.

Pfeiffer goalkeeper Ali Jaafar would post recorded four saves for the Falcons while seeing 12 total Knights shots.

Pfeiffer will close the regular season with a 6:00 p.m. road match at Brevard College on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
