Volleyball Drops Season Finale at N.C. Wesleyan

Rocky Mount, N.C. (Nov. 8, 2024) --The Pfeiffer volleyball team fell to the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops in five sets (20-25, 25-12, 16-25, 25-13, 14-16) Friday on the road at Everett Gymnasium in the season finale.

Junior Faith Miller finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Falcons offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .471.Kylee Mayberry also pitched in with five in the contest. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Gabby Edwards had 21 and Gabi Gama had 11. From the front row, Madison Tate contributed six blocks.

Game Notes

» Kylee Mayberry had a team-high five aces in the loss.
» Pfeiffer served up five aces on the way to a fourth-set victory.
» Faith Miller had a team-high nine kills for Pfeiffer.
» Pfeiffer got a match-high 21 digs from Gabby Edwards.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Falcons found themselves in an early hole, dropping the first set 25-20. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as eight points as North Carolina Wesleyan grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was knotted up just once before the Battling Bishops took control.

SET 2 | Pfeiffer rallied from a first-set loss to take the second set 25-12, evening the match at one set apiece. The Falcons took control of the set lead early on at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way. Pfeiffer led by as many as 13 points at 23-10 before finishing off the set. The Pfeiffer offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | North Carolina Wesleyan responded to win set number three, putting Pfeiffer in a two sets to one hole. The Falcons lost a tough set 25-16. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as 10 points as North Carolina Wesleyan grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was knotted up two times before the Battling Bishops took over the lead.

SET 4 | Pfeiffer then responded to secure the fourth set 25-13 to force a fifth set. A fantastic serving effort helped Pfeiffer earn a victory in a set where they totaled five aces. The Falcons ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.

SET 5 | Pfeiffer was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but dropping the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 16-14, to fall in the match. The Falcons couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.


With the loss, Pfeiffer finishes the season at 5-25 overall and 2-16 in USA South play.
