Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Cruises to 92-63 Win Over Methodist

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 14, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team got a 51-point showing from the bench and cruised to a 92-63 USA South win over the Methodist Monarchs at Mernerh Gym on Wednesday evening.

The Falcons (9-12, 6-7) had two players score in double figures, led by junior Daymon Beckwith, who had 16 points. Sophomore Doug Smith added 13 points and four blocks while junior Daniel Fulp added eight points and a pair of steals.

Pfeiffer out-rebounded Methodist 46-32, led by a career-high seven rebounds from senior Kendall Matthews. The Falcons also pulled down 15 offensive rebounds and scored 10 second chance points.

Pfeiffer forced 13 Methodist turnovers turning those takeaways into 14 points. 

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 28-23 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 10-0 run with 6:42 left in the first half to increase its lead to 38-23. The Falcons then added seven points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 49-27 advantage. Pfeiffer did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 36 of its 49 points close to the basket.

Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 90-61 late in the game.

» Pfeiffer never trailed on the way to a 92-63 victory.
