Birmingham-Southern Downs Pfeiffer Men's Lacrosse in Season Opener
Salisbury, N.C. (Feb. 15, 2024) – Visiting Birmingham-Southern dealt the Pfeiffer men's lacrosse a 9-6 defeat in the Falcons' season-opener at Shuford Stadium in Salisbury, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The visiting Panthers wasted little time, as they jumped ahead 2-0 with goals at 13:13 and 11:17 of the first quarter.
Pfeiffer cut the lead to 2-1 when
Zach Gignac scored an unassisted goal at 6:29. BSC would score again in the first to take the 3-1 lead at 4:35.
Pfeiffer tallied the next two goals to tie the game at 3-3.Â
Zach DeFazio scored on a man-up goal on an assist from
Zach Gignac at 2:45 of the second quarter while
Spencer Stokes added an unassisted scored at 13:15 of the third quarter.
BSC would score the next three goals in the third quarter to take the 6-3 lead. Pfeiffer got another score from DeFazio in the third, but BSC closed the quarte with a scored to make it 7-4.
Pfeiffer's
Khyler Johnson scored at the 6:00 mark of the fourth to draw the Falcons to 7-5, but two more BSC goals game at 4:21 and 2:00 of the fourth quarter to boost the Panther lead to 9-5.
Pfeiffer would score at the end of the fourth quarter on another DeFazio goal.
Inside the Box Score
DeFazio would lead the Falcons with three goals while Gignac added a goal and an assist in the loss. Johnson and Stokes had Pfeiffer's other two scores.
Tobias Ballester scooped a team-best five ground balls while four different Pfeiffer players managed three ground balls each.

William Wozniak led the Falcons defensively with three caused turnvoers each.
Goalkeeper
Korbin Hamilton made seven saves for the Falcons while his BSC counterpart, Nathan Pepe made 17 saves.

Pfeiffer is tentatively scheduled to take on ODAC foe Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 4:00 p.m. A site for that game is to be determined due to the ongoing renovations at Lefko Field.
