Women's Basketball Drops USA South Game at N.C. Wesleyan 66-57

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (Feb. 3, 2024)  --The Pfeiffer women's basketball team held North Carolina Wesleyan to just 20 percent from beyond the arc in a 3-for-15 shooting performance, but fell 66-57 to the Battling Bishops on the road Saturday in Rocky Mount, N.C.

The Falcons (5-14, 4-11) had two players score in double figures, led by sophomore Miya Horton, who had 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Fellow sophomore Hannah Isley tacked on 13 points and freshman Lola Cabiness-Ali added six points and 11 rebounds.

Led by Cabiness-Ali's four offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 15 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 5-4 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run with 5:55 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Kenadie Hudler, to increase its lead to 10-4. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 14-12 advantage. Pfeiffer relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 14 points.

The Falcons could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 24-19.

North Carolina Wesleyan continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 26-19 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 26-25 with 7:36 to go in the third. North Carolina Wesleyan countered and stretched its lead to 44-38 heading into the fourth. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.

Pfeiffer could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 66-57. Pfeiffer took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.
