Pfeiffer def. Guilford, 6-0
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Pfeiffer University softball team came away with a nonconference doubleheader sweep at Guilford College on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Kali Morton continued in dominant fashion, as she tossed a five-hit shutout to lead the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Guilford Quakers 6-0 in game one.
Morton (15-0) went the distance for Pfeiffer (32-1), giving up five hits, walking two and striking out two.
Offensively, Pfeiffer was paced by Gracie Griffin, who went 3-for-4 in the game with a double, a home run and two RBI. Alyssa Broaddus also compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Junior Emma Bullin also helped out for Pfeiffer, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer plated two runs when Broaddus left the yard with Griffin aboard.
The Falcons then tacked on runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored two times. Those two runs came across on Griffin's two-run homer to center.

In game two, Bullin collected four RBIÂ to help propel the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Guilford Quakers 7-4.
Bullin (6-1) also got the win in the circle for Pfeiffer (33-1). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, allowed no walks and struck out one Quaker batter.
At the plate, Bullin went 2-for-3 with a double in addition to her four RBIÂ for the Falcons. Fellow junior Gracie Griffin put together a standout day at the plate in game two as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Kenzi Lyall also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Bullin.
The Falcons then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fifth inning after the Quakers cut it to 5-2. Pfeiffer picked up two runs when a single from Bullin scored Lyall and A. Broaddus, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Falcons. Guilford put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Pfeiffer still held on for the 7-4 win.
