Pfeiffer Baseball Splits Saturday DH With Methodist

GAME 1
Methodist def. Pfeiffer, 2-1

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- A solid outing from senior Thad Lewis (2-5) was not enough for Pfeiffer (15-17, 7-10) in a narrow 2-1 loss to Methodist in game one of a Saturday doubleheader.

 The right-hander went eight innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits, allowing three walks and striking out six. Freshman Dylan Dula was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit.

Offensively, the Falcons were paced by senior Zach Ferrell, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Junior Wilson Lohrer put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-5 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the second inning. Pfeiffer got an RBI single from Ferrell, scoring senior C.J. Acosta from second base. Methodist then scored one time over the remaining seven innings to break the tie and grab the 2-1 win.

GAME 2 | Pfeiffer def. Methodist, 15-13

In game two, the Pfeiffer Falcons rallied from down 11-10 in the seventh inning to defeat the Methodist Monarchs 15-13 Saturday.

Sophomore Sam Safrit (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Pfeiffer (16-17, 8-10). The right-hander went one inning, giving up one run on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out one. Senior Jordan Byrd also made an impact on the mound for the Falcons, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Falcons were led by senior Zach Ferrell, who went 4-for-6 on the day with a triple, two home runs and six RBI. Ben Barnes put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Junior Wilson Lohrer also helped out for Pfeiffer, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Pfeiffer scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from Ferrell.

After the Monarchs rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Falcons came back to retake the lead in the third inning. Pfeiffer scored twice on Barnes' two-run homer, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Falcons.

Methodist fired back to tie the ballgame at four before Pfeiffer reclaimed a 6-4 advantage in the fourth inning. Lohrer's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Falcons.

Pfeiffer lost the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the scoreboard in the fifth trailing 7-6. The Falcons scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Ferrell, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 10-7.

Methodist then mounted a comeback, taking a 13-10 lead heading into the eighth, when the Falcons re-gained a 15-13 advantage. The Pfeiffer offense piled up five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Ferrell. The score remained 15-13 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons held on for the win.
