BREVARD, N.C. (Jan. 21, 2025) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team earned an 82-74 USA South road victory at Brevard College on Tuesday at Boshamer Gym.
The Falcons (8-6, 4-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Justin Gaten, who had 17 points. Alex Cunningham added 15 points and Doug Smith chipped in as well with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Smith pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead the Pfeiffer offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 17 second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 24-15, Pfeiffer would embark on an 8-0 run with 10:48 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 24-23. The Falcons then closed the rest of the gap and grabbed a 45-41 lead heading into halftime. Pfeiffer did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 45 points close to the basket.
Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 75-66 with 4:49 to go in the contest. The Tornados narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 82-74 win. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 37 total points.
