Box Score Pfeiffer Men's Tennis Shines at Knapp Family Invitational
MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2025) — Pfeiffer University's men's tennis team delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Knapp Family Invitational, notching multiple singles and doubles victories over Methodist University, Piedmont, and Johnson & Wales University across two days of competition at the Knapp Tennis Center.
On Day 1, Pfeiffer faced Methodist University in a series of singles matches, claiming five wins out of eight.
Jayden Wellman opened with a hard-fought three-set victory over Harry Crokam (6-2, 3-6, 11-9), while Aissult Mukhambetov,
Bogdan Stan, Aristi van Bergeijk, and
Goncalo Oliveira also secured straight-set wins. Van Bergeijk edged out Shea McCarthy in a thrilling three-set match (6-2, 6-7 [5], 10-7).
In doubles play, Pfeiffer struggled against Piedmont, dropping all three matches. However, the duo of
Ameno Morgan and van Bergeijk salvaged a win against Piedmont's Jack Maddox and Allan Soto (6-3).
Day 2 saw Pfeiffer bounce back with a dominant performance against Johnson & Wales, sweeping all six singles matches. Standouts included
Laurin Rauer, who defeated Nathaniel Lawler 6-3, 6-2, and
Mateo Oporto, who bested Wilder Noyes 6-4, 6-2. In doubles, Pfeiffer claimed three of four matches, with the pair of Oliveira and Oporto edging out Sam Cicciarello and Cayden Danzer in a tight 7-6 [7-3] contest.
Against Piedmont, Pfeiffer split the singles matches, winning four of six. Mukhambetov, Kezen, Robles Solis, and Burgoyne each earned victories, with Burgoyne prevailing in a second-set tiebreak and a decisive third set (6-7 [10], 10-5).
Despite a tough doubles round against Methodist on Day 2, Pfeiffer managed two wins, including a 6-2 triumph by Morgan and Oliveira over Zach Bessey and James Giles.
Pfeiffer's overall performance at the invitational showcased depth and resilience, with standout individual efforts and promising doubles pairings setting the tone as the Falcons wrap up their fall schedule and look ahead to the 2026 spring season.
