ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (Feb. 1, 2025) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team clamped down on North Carolina Wesleyan, limiting the Bishops to just an 18.2 percent outing from long rangeon the way to an 86-77 victory over the Battling Bishops on the road Saturday at Everett Gym in Rocky Mount, N.C.
The Falcons (10-7, 6-2) had five players score in double figures, led by senior Daymon Beckwith, who had 21 points and four assists. Alex Cunningham added 13 points and Daniel Fulp helped out with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Pfeiffer took advantage of great ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 16 assists on 30 made field goals. Beckwith's four assists led the distribution for the Falcons and Clayton Robinson also added four assists of his own.
Pfeiffer's defense held North Carolina Wesleyan to only 18.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Battling Bishops did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with seven offensive rebounds and managed six second chance points while Pfeiffer cleared 23 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After falling behind 36-25, Pfeiffer went on a 12-0 run with 2:50 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Donte Forrester-Jhagroo, to take a 37-36 lead, a score that would hold until halftime. Pfeiffer did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 37 points close to the basket.
North Carolina Wesleyan proceeded to take a 69-68 lead before Pfeiffer went on a 10-0 run, finished off by Forrester-Jhagroo's three, to seize a 78-69 lead with 3:18 to go in the contest. The Falcons held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 86-77 win. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 23 of its 49 total points.
