BUENA VISTA, Va. (Feb. 22, 2025) --Senior Alexis Bynum scored a team-high 21 poitns in a 73-43 setback at Southern Virginia in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday in Buena Vista, Va.
In addition to her scoring, Bynum had three steals, three rebounds and one assist on the day.. Fellow senior teammate Mara Ochoa-Contreras added eight points and two steals while senior Amanda Finch chipped in with three points and two steals from the bench.
The Pfeiffer defense forced 22 Southern Virginia turnovers while committing 15. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on for the Falcons. Sophomore Peyton McPeters also had three steals on the afternoon
How It Happened
Pfeiffer kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 12-11.
Southern Virginia kept adding to that lead, building a 17-11 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 7-0 run to take an 18-17 lead. The Knights then came roaring back to take a 30-25 lead heading into halftime.
Southern Virginia continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 45-28 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Bynum, to trim its deficit to 45-33 with 2:56 to go in the third. Southern Virginia countered and stretched its lead to 53-36 heading into the fourth. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring six of its 11 points in the paint.
Pfeiffer could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 73-43. Pfeiffer fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down one shot to account for three of its seven points.
