SVU Downs Pfeiffer Women's Tennis at USA South Tournament

Rocky Mount, N.C. (April 25, 2025)– Southern Virginia University took a close 4-3 women's tennis win over Pfeiffer University on Friday in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan University.

THE BASICS
Third-seeded Southern Virginia would take the early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point by claiming wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 matches.

Pfeiffer's Fanny Apostolou and Haley Ingentio won the No. 3 match 6-0.

In singles play, won the matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 to claim the team win.

Pfeiffer's Sydney Cohen won her match at No. 3 singles in straight sets, winning 7-5 and 6-3.  Freshman Sonya Rhoades took a three-set win at No. 5 by a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 score and Kristen Colie would win her No. 6 match 6-3, 6-2.

Tied at 3-3, SVU's Lydia Delich outlasted Pfeiffer's Haley Ingenito in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 to advance the Knights to the USA South Championship match on Saturday against top-seeded N.C. Wesleyan.

The Falcons complete their season at 14-6 overall and 6-1 in USA South play, the program's top league finish since joining the USA South.
