DEMOREST, Ga. — Pfeiffer University earned a doubleheader split Friday at Piedmont, falling 3-2 in the opener before erupting for a 9-0 run-rule victory in the second game on the strength of a no-hitter by freshman pitcher
Abigail Bowman.
GAME 1 — Piedmont 3, Pfeiffer 2
Pfeiffer struck early, scoring once in the first when
E.A. Nance reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on
Mollie Bulla's RBI single.
Brooke Piper added a run in the fourth after reaching on a fielder's choice, stealing second and scoring on
Charly Cooper's RBI single.
Despite the strong start, Pfeiffer's offense cooled late as Piedmont rallied with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, driven by a pair of extra-base hits.
Notable Pfeiffer performances:
- Charly Cooper went 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and a stolen base.
- Mollie Bulla drove in one run and pitched a complete game (6.0 IP, 11 H, 3 ER).
- Landry Stewart recorded a hit and a stolen base.
- Pfeiffer was aggressive on the bases as they tallied four stolen bases.
Piedmont pitcher J. Vickery went the distance, limiting Pfeiffer to six hits and two runs while striking out four.
GAME 2 — Pfeiffer 9, Piedmont 0 (5 innings)
The Falcons flipped the script in Game 2, dominating both offensively and in the circle.
Pfeiffer opened with a run in the first and another in the second before exploding for seven runs in the third, capitalizing on Piedmont defensive miscues and timely hitting. The inning featured RBI contributions from Bulla,
Ky Perdue,
Heather Vaughn, and Stewart, along with a passed ball and multiple errors extending the rally.
