MISENHEIMER, N.C. (March 17, 2026) — Guilford broke open a tight game with a five-run eighth inning and handed Pfeiffer a 7–1 home loss Tuesday afternoon at a sunny but chilly Joe Ferebee Field.
Pfeiffer (8-11) struck first in the bottom of the opening inning when
Jack Brandle singled up the middle to score
Joe Javier, who had reached on a throwing error. It would be the Falcons' only run of the day, despite collecting five hits and putting eight runners on base.
Guilford (8-9) answered in the third when Rylan Smith launched a solo home run to left, tying the game at 1–1. The Quakers moved in front an inning later on Trevor Myers' RBI groundout following back-to-back hits from Dominic Pegues and Chris Shoemaker.
The pivotal eighth inning began with a single by Ethan George and a walk to Smith. Ryne Rodrigues then drilled a three-run homer to left, stretching the Guilford lead to 5–1. Moments later, a bunt single by Shoemaker combined with a throwing error allowed two more runs to score, pushing the margin to six.
Rodrigues finished with three RBIs and two runs, while Smith added two runs scored. Shoemaker had two hits and scored twice. Guilford pitchers—Izaac McGuire, John Yarnovich, Hayden Sekanick and Braden Wilkie—combined to hold Pfeiffer scoreless over the final eight innings.
Pfeiffer's
Andrew Bruss took the loss despite allowing just one earned run over three innings. Reliever
Mason Mosteller struggled in the eighth, facing six batters without recording an out and being charged with five runs.
Pfeiffer returns to play on Friday, March 20 when they open a three-game USA South series with rival Greensboro College at Joe Ferebee Field. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.
