Falcon Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Southern Virginia
Buena Vista, Va. (April 2, 2022) – After falling to Southern Virginia on Friday evening, visiting Pfeiffer University split a USA South doubleheader with the host Knights, winning 6-3 in game two and falling by a 9-7 score in game two.

How it Happened
Game 1
Pfeiffer's
John Owen pitched 6.1 inning and struck out seven batters to improve to 2-5 on the season. Owen was aided by and RBI single from
Austin Morton in the third inning that put the Falcons up 1-0. A
Zach Ferrell double later in the inning drove in two more runs, pushing the Falcons to the 3-0 lead.
SVU responded with an RBI triple to trim the lead to 3-2 in the home half of the third.
The Falcons then pushed two more runs across in the fourth inning on a
Josh Turner RBI double following by an RBI single from
Landon Evans, making it 5-2.
A
Carter Merrill RBI single in the fifth then staked Pfeiffer to the 6-2 lead.
SVU would get a run back in the seventh on a Pfeiffer error, but that would be the closest they would get, as Falcon reliever
Adam Bridgeman closed the game in the seventh to earn his first save of the year.
Game 2
In the second game, SVU scored seven runs in the second inning and held off the Falcons in taking the 9-7 win.Â
Josh Turner and
Jackson Leck each went 2-of-3 in game two win an RBI apiece while
Alec Bell was 1-of-5 with a triple and an RBI in the loss.

Pfeiffer will return to Misenheimer for a nonconference game against Ferrum College on Tuesday, April 5. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Joe Ferebee Field.
