How It Happened
ON a humid evening in Misenheimer, visiting Guilford grabbed the early lead in the 22
nd minute after Logan Eura managed an unassisted goal.
Pfeiffer managed to tie the match at 1-1 when sophomore
Bernardo Jardim (Monaco City, Monaco) scored the first goal of the season less than two minutes after entering the match as a substitute. Jardim's score was assisted by fellow sophomore
Steven Lozano.
Sam Stewart (Belhaven, N.C.) put Pfeiffer up 2-1 in the 63
rd minute after earning a penalty kick. The Falcon lead would grow to 3-1 when senior
Nico Soriano knocked in a header in the 64
th minute.
Soriano's goal was setup following a free kick in which Stewart sent the ball in from just in front of the Pfeiffer bench. Teammate
Nick Ruscetti (Wilmington, N.C.) was able to loft a header to Soriano who was stationed to the left of the Quaker goalkeeper. Soriano then headed the ball in the bottom right side of the goal for his sixth career marker for the Falcons.
Guilford's Kenny Nzekwe scored the next two goals, the first of which came in the 73
rd minute and the eventual tying goal in then81st minute on an assist from Eure.
Pfeiffer had several quality chances to break the tie in the final minutes, including a blistering shot from freshman
Ricky Hernandez-Sexton (Mobile, Ala.) that rattled the Guilford crossbar at 87:17.
The Falcons had one final chance on a free kick opportunity, but Stewart's shot from 15 yards was saved by Guilford's Roman Robinson as time expired, preserving the 3-3 draw.
Pfeiffer's sophomore goalkeeper
Ali Jaafar (Matthews, N.C.) made five saves in the tie.
