Owen Fans 10 as Pfeiffer Baseball Wins Home Opener
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 10, 2023) – Pfeiffer University graduate student
John Owen struck out 10 Carolina University batters as Pfeiffer claimed the 6-2 home-opening win on Friday night.
The Basics
Owen started off strong, as he struck all the side in the top of the first inning. The Falcon bats gave him an early 2-0 lead to work with thanks to RBI singles from
Brady Parker (Oakboro, N.C.) and
Alec Bell (Kings Mountain, N.C.) in the home half of the first.
The Falcons got another two runs in the fourth inning after another RBI single from Parker.Â
Jake Brown (Winston-Salem, N.C.) would score after the Carolina U shortstop threw the ball away after trying to cut the lead runner down at third following a
Jackson Leck (High Point, N.C.) fielders choice.
Zach Ferrell (Apex, N.C.) gave Pfeiffer the 6-0 lead in the fifth inning on a two-RBI double to left center, scoring
Cory Lackey (Wilkesboro, N.C.) and
Cameron Graham (Salisbury, N.C.).
The Bruins then cut into the Pfeiffer lead, scoring twice in the sixth inning, making it 6-2.
Falcon reliever
Jacob Landis (Gastonia, N.C.) would help stymie the Bruins over the final two innings, as he gave up just one hit while striking out three batters of his own.
