Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | K.C. Culler - Pfeiffer Athletics Communications

McPeters and Cabaniss-Ali lead Pfeiffer past Bob Jones 75-49

MISENHEIMER, NC (Jan. 13, 2025) --Sophomore Peyton McPeters totaled 14 rebounds and Lola Cabaniss-Ali added 12 more, and the Pfeiffer women's basketball team defeated the Bob Jones Bruins 75-49 at home in Merner Gym on Monday night.

McPeters and Cabaniss-Ali's fantastic rebounding performances led the Falcons (5-6) in the contest. McPeters tacked on 10 points, four assists, and four steals and Cabaniss-Ali added six points and two steals. Alexis Bynum also helped out with 14 points, four assists and two steals.

The double-double was the first career for McPeters, as she picked up career bests in both points and rebounds.

Pfeiffer grabbed 56 rebounds in Monday's game compared to Bob Jones' 28, led by McPeters' 14 boards. The Falcons also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 28 rebounds into 28 second chance points.

Pfeiffer's defense held Bob Jones to only 35.7 percent shooting from the field. The Bruins did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with one offensive rebounds and managed zero second chance points while Pfeiffer cleared 28 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

Pfeiffer started out the scoring by going on a 12-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Ava Hairston, to take an early lead with 5:15 left in the first quarter. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with an 18-12 advantage. Pfeiffer did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 18 points close to the basket.

Pfeiffer built that first quarter lead to 29-20 before going on an 11-0 run starting at the 5:45 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Cabaniss-Ali, to increase its lead to 40-20. The Falcons proceeded to tack on one point to that lead and enjoyed a 44-23 advantage heading into halftime. Pfeiffer forced 10 Bob Jones turnovers in the period and turned them into eight points.

Pfeiffer continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Hairston, to expand its lead further to 50-29 with 5:04 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Bruins had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Falcons still entered the fourth quarter with a 56-37 edge. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 12 points in the paint.

Pfeiffer kept widening that lead, expanding it to 61-39 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Kenadie Hudler's three, to grow the lead to 67-39 with 6:34 to go in the contest. The Bruins narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 75-49 win. Pfeiffer fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 19 points.
