BREVARD, N.C. (Jan. 15, 2025) --The Pfeiffer women's basketball team held Brevard to just 16.7 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-18 shooting performance, but fell 60-56 to the Tornados on the road on Wednesday night.
The Falcons (5-7, 3-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Ava Hairston, who had 11 points and eight rebounds. Alexis Bynum added 11 points, six assists and five steals and Peyton McPeters helped out with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Led by Lola Cabaniss-Ali's five offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 16 boards that resulted in 16 second chance points.
Pfeiffer's defense held Brevard to only 16.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 38.6 percent from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 13-3, Pfeiffer went on a 9-0 run with 2:36 left in the first quarter to narrow its deficit to 13-12. Brevard answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Falcons down 15-12 entering the second quarter.
Brevard kept adding to that lead, building a 24-18 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Hairston, to narrow its deficit to 24-23. Brevard responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Falcons trailing 31-28 heading into halftime.
Pfeiffer and Brevard both put up eight points in the third quarter, keeping the deficit even at 39-36 entering the fourth. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring four of its eight points in the paint.
Pfeiffer kept the Tornados from increasing their lead before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Cabaniss-Ali's jumper, to seize a 42-40 lead with 7:59 to go in the contest. Brevard re-asserted control, outscoring the Falcons 20-14 the rest of the way to hand Pfeiffer the 60-56 loss. Pfeiffer fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 20 points.
