Pfeiffer Women Comes Up Short at N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (Jan. 18, 2025) --The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team got a 33-point performance from the bench, but came up short, falling 69-61 to the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops on the road Saturday in Rocky Mount, N.C.

The Falcons (5-8, 3-5) had three players score in double figures, led by senior Alexis Bynum, who had 14 points. Freshman teammate Ava Hairston tacked on 13 points and five steals from the bench and freshman Kendyll Moore chipped in as well with 11 points from the bench.

The Pfeiffer defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 17 North Carolina Wesleyan turnovers while committing 16. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Hairston's five steals led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

Pfeiffer struggled out of the gate, falling behind 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.

North Carolina Wesleyan kept adding to that lead, building a 26-16 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run to narrow its deficit to 26-21. The Falcons continued to chip away, reducing the North Carolina Wesleyan lead to 30-26 heading into the break.

Pfeiffer's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Falcons faced a 45-38 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.

North Carolina Wesleyan kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 58-46 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Hairston's layup, to shrink the deficit to 58-52 with 4:28 to go in the contest. North Carolina Wesleyan responded and outscored the Falcons the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 69-61. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 13 of its 23 total points.
