Pfeiffer Women Rolls Over William Peace 83-54

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 25, 2025) --The Pfeiffer women's basketball team held William Peace to just 14.3 percent from beyond the arc in a 2-for-14 shooting performance and rolled to an 83-54 victory against the Pacers on the road Tuesday.

The Falcons (6-8, 4-5) had four players score in double figures, led by freshman Ava Hairston, who had 19 points and five steals. Senior Alexis Bynum added 11 points and junior Hannah Isley helped out with 10 points off of the bench.

Pfeiffer's defense also held WPU to a 37.3 percent output from the field.

How It Happened

After falling behind 5-4, Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run with 5:52 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Hairston, to take a 10-5 lead. The Falcons then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 21-12 advantage. Pfeiffer capitalized on eight William Peace turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.

Pfeiffer built that first quarter lead to 35-24 before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 1:44 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Isley, to increase its lead to 41-24. The Pacers cut into that lead, but the Falcons still enjoyed a 41-25 advantage heading into halftime. Pfeiffer dominated in the paint, scoring 10 of its 20 points close to the basket.

Following halftime, Pfeiffer continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 50-28 before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Hairston, to expand its lead further to 55-28 with 5:11 to go in the third. The Falcons held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 67-40 edge. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring 16 of its 26 points in the paint.

Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Mara Ochoa-Contreras' layup, to grow the lead to 76-44 with 5:28 to go in the contest. The Pacers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 83-54 win. Pfeiffer took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 16 points in the paint.
