Pfeiffer Baseball Falls at Guilford 9-4

GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 26, 2025) --The Pfeiffer Falcons had a tough showing on Wednesday, falling to the Guilford Quakers by final score of 9-4 in Greensboro.

Noah Cottone (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (6-15). T. Lowe started the ballgame and went three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out one.

At the plate, the Falcons were paced by Levi Barrett, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Austin Wood compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hayden Furr also helped out for Pfeiffer, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Pfeiffer got an RBI single from Wood, scoring C.J. Acosta from second base.

The Falcons then held the Quakers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Hunter Huneycutt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Falcons.

Pfeiffer held Guilford without a run before expanding their lead to 3-0 the following inning.

Pfeiffer gave up the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 6-3. Thomas Ashby crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Falcons, bringing the score to 6-4 in favor of Guilford. The Falcons were unable to get any closer, as Guilford added three runs to their tally on the way to a 9-4 final.

GAME NOTES
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed one run across.
» Pfeiffer pitchers faced 43 Guilford hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and 12 fly balls while striking out two.
» Barrett led the Falcons at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
» Guilford was led offensively by S. Dark, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
» J. Ratliff led the Quakers pitching staff, throwing 1.2 shutout innings.

Pfeiffer returns to Misenheimer on Friday to open a three-game USA South series with Southern Virginia.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
