Pfeiffer Baseball Drops USA South Series Opener to SVU

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (March 28, 2025) --The Southern Virginia Knights scored three runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 4-1 win over Pfeiffer in the USA South baseball series opener at Joe Ferebee Field on Friday evening.

Senior Josh Little (2-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (6-16, 2-5). Freshman James Eason was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking three and striking out one SVU batter.

Offensively, the Falcons were led by senior Hayden Furr, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI. Sophomore Hunter Huneycutt put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4. Senior Wilson Lohrer also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the ninth inning. Freshman Levi Barrett came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board. The Falcons were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the ninth, when it pushed one run across.
» Pfeiffer pitchers faced 40 Southern Virginia hitters in the game, allowing 14 ground balls and five fly balls while striking out five.
» Furr led the Falcons at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
» Southern Virginia was led offensively by junior Seth Lloyd, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
» Junior Zack Geertsen led the Knights pitching staff, throwing nine innings of one-run ball.

The Falcons and Knights will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 with the first pitch slated for Noon at Joe Ferebee Field
