GAME 1 | Pfeiffer 10, Southern Virginia 7

MISENHEIMER, N.C. --The Pfeiffer Falcons took an 8-4 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 10-7 victory over the Southern Virginia Knights in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field..

Senior Thad Lewis (3-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Pfeiffer (7-16, 3-5). The right-hander went six innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on nine hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Junior Sam Safrit also made an impact on the mound for the Falcons, throwing three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the second inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up eight runs, including a two-run double off the bat of senior C.J. Acosta.

The Knights failed to push any runs across before the Falcons built on their lead in the fourth inning. Freshman Levi Barrett's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Pfeiffer scored twice, which brought the score to 10-4 in favor of the Falcons. Southern Virginia put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Pfeiffer still held on for the 10-7 win. 54 101 37 23 10

» Sophomore Hunter Huneycutt had three base knocks in the game for Pfeiffer.
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed eight runs across.
» The Falcons had control of the rest of the game after jumping ahead of the Knights 8-4 in the bottom of the second.
» Four Falcons had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» The Falcons out-hit the Knights at a 12-11 clip.
» Pfeiffer went 7-for-18 (.389) with runners in scoring position.

GAME 2 | Pfeiffer 13, Southern Virginia 4

In game two, sophomore Hunter Huneycutt racked up four hits to help lead the Pfeiffer Falcons past the Southern Virginia Knights 13-4, 

Junior Andrew Bruss (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Pfeiffer (8-16, 4-5). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up one hit, two walks and striking out one. Freshman Trent Lowe started the ballgame and went four innings, surrendering one run on five hits, walking none and striking out two.

Huneycutt's four-hit day led the Falcons offensively. Senior C.J. Acosta put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks and four RBI. Junior Joe Javier also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of Badin Gusa.

The Knights then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 4-1 until the Falcons expanded their advantage in the third. Acosta came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which brought the score to 5-1 in favor of the Falcons.

Pfeiffer held Southern Virginia without a run before building their lead to 7-1 in the fifth inning. The Falcons scored twice, with one run coming across on Javier's single.

The Knights gained ground, closing the gap to 7-2 until Pfeiffer added some insurance in the sixth. A grand slam from Acosta off junior Javari Christopher cashed in four runs in the frame for the Falcons, bringing the score to 11-2 in favor of Pfeiffer.

The Falcons held Southern Virginia scoreless before expanding their lead to 13-2 the following inning. Pfeiffer managed to push across two runs in the inning. Southern Virginia put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Falcons still coasted to the 13-4 win.

The Falcons will step out of league play for a mid-week trip to No. 3 Lynchburg on Tuesday, April 1.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
