Pfeiffer University Names Drew MacBean as New Head Golf Coach

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (July 16, 2025) - Pfeiffer University announces the hiring of veteran golf coach Drew MacBean as the new head coach of its men's and women's golf programs.

MacBean, a PGA Class A-12 professional, brings over a decade of collegiate coaching experience to the Falcons, including head coaching roles at four different institutions. Most recently, he served as head men's golf coach at Combine Academy, a private boys' boarding school, where he led the program to back-to-back CAA4SC state championships in 2024 and 2025. Under his leadership, Combine Academy golfers earned 39 individual tournament wins and numerous top-five finishes on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. MacBean also had 19 former student-athletes advance to play at the collegiate level at all three NCAA Divisions and other collegiate levels.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach MacBean to Pfeiffer," said Interim Athletic Director Jeff Childress '89. "His track record of building successful programs and developing student-athletes both on and off the course makes him a perfect fit for our university."

Prior to Combine Academy, MacBean rebuilt the golf programs at Millsaps College (2018–2021), Marion Military Institute (2016–2018), and Alcorn State University (2015–2016). At each stop, he demonstrated a strong ability to recruit talent both domestically and internationally.

MacBean's coaching résumé includes 22 tournament wins, 14 individual medalists, and 12 all-conference players. He also helped guide teams to conference championships at
UNC Pembroke and Erskine College during his time as an assistant coach.

A graduate of Campbell University with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Professional Golf Management, MacBean also holds a Master of Education from Greenville University.

"I'm honored to join the Pfeiffer community and excited to lead the golf programs into a new era," MacBean said. "I look forward to building a culture of excellence, integrity, and competitive success."

MacBean is a member of the Carolinas PGA and has held PGA membership since 2013.
