NATIONAL CHAMPS: Falcons Complete Third Perfect Season in NCAA History

Box Score

Joe Burgarino Sports Information Graduate Assistant

PENSACOLA, FL- For the first time in Pfeiffer men's soccer history the Falcons are National Champions, finishing the season a perfect 25-0. The Falcons dominated Cal Poly Pomona by a score of 4-0. Nathan Regis netted his 31st and 32nd goals of the season, winning the Offensive Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. The junior striker also broke another school record, setting the mark for most points in a career with 141. Regis's breaks Robert Hinch's record set in 1978 of 137 points. The Falcons become the first undefeated champion in Division II men's soccer since Southern Connecticut State posted a 20-0 mark in 1999. The only other team to go unbeaten and untied was Lock Haven in 1980, who went 21-0.

"My teammates are very talented and selfless," Regis said. "They don't hog the ball at all. They distribute the ball and try to set up their teammates. Once you share the ball, it always gets back to you when it needs to. As a forward, you just have to keep making runs and distributing the ball and everything will come to you to finish."

Pfeiffer struck quickly scoring two goals in the first 3:59 of the contest. Regis took a ball from the top of the box from Jorge Buzzo and beat the keeper to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. 97 seconds later, midfielder Martim Galvao sent a beautiful pass from about 60 yards to Jaime Siaj, who scored his 17th goal of the campaign, and just like that the Falcons were up 2-0.

"We were able to get behind them early a couple times and I think Regis' and Siaj's finish really set us off and gave us confidence," Head Coach Bob Reasso said. "The first goal of the match always means so much."

In the 61st minute of the match Regis drew a penalty kick beating the goalkeeper for his second tally of the game. Less than two minutes later Siaj sent a through ball to Galvao, who found the back of the net, for the ninth time this season, slamming the door on the Broncos.

Freshman goalkeeper Tomas Correa recorded his seventh shutout of the season and he needed just two saves to do it. Pfeiffer outshot the Broncos 21-12.

Pfeiffer's four goals was the second-most in an NCAA Division II championship game, and the Falcons recorded the first title game shutout since 2009

Sophomore defenseman Dani Siaj was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player, joined by Galvao, Siaj and Santi Moar, who were all named to the All-Tournament team.

"It means a little bit more to me because this is my alma mater, and mostly because of the guys," said Reasso. "This is the best group of kids I've ever coached, bar none."
