FT. LAUDERDALE, FL – On Sunday, the Pfeiffer Falcons (3-4) played their second game of the Cruizin Classic and fell to the Briar Cliff (7-5) 79-66 as senior forward Meg Pritchard led all Falcon scorers with 18 points.
The Falcons and the Chargers played a contested, 12-11 first quarter as Pritchard led the Falcons with four points on 1-for-3 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line. The Chargers held the Falcons to only 2-for-15 (13%) but Pfeiffer held an advantage from the foul line as they shot 7-for-8 (88%).
At the start of the second quarter, Sydni Bickford ignited a 14-4 run with her back-to-back made three point shots that helped Pfeiffer jump out to a 25-16 lead.
The combination of Vivian Doerr and Pritchard each scored six second quarter points to give the Falcons a 36-35 lead going into halftime.
As hot as the Falcons were in the second stanza, they were just as cold from the field in the third, shooting 3-for-14 (21%) and 1-for-8 (13%) from three. The Chargers outscored Pfeiffer 22-10 to jump out to a 57-46 at the end of three.
Pfeiffer was outscored 7-0 to start the fourth quarter before Pritchard hit on her 13th point of the afternoon. After a Charger free throw by Taylor Wagner at 8:03, Bethany Sarson and Pritchard hit on three consecutive three pointers to cut the Briar Cliff lead to 67-57. The Chargers turned around and went on a 7-0 run.
With 3:48 left in the game, down 77-63, Pfeiffer finished the game on a 6-2 run as Bickford hit her fourth three point field goal of the game, Doerr's eighth point, and a Pritchard foul shot but weren't able to get any closer. The Falcons closed out the fourth quarter shooting 7-for-12 (58%) from the field and 4-for-6 (67%) beyond arc.
Pfeiffer returns to play on January 3rd as they play host to Conference Carolinas opponent, Erskine for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
