Greensboro Drops Pfeiffer Women's Basketball, 77-53

Misenheimer N.C. (Feb. 6, 2019) –
 Visiting Greensboro College used a big third quarter and clamped down on the Pfeiffer University offense in the fourth quarter to take a 77-53 USA South win in women's basketball action in Merner Gym on Wednesday night.

The Falcons opened the first four minutes on a 12-5 run before the visiting Pride was able to respond pulling to within two points (12-10) at the 3:32 mark.
 
Greensboro went into the second quarter trailing 18-14 but used an 11-6 run over the first seven minutes of the period to take their first lead of the contest at 25-24.
 
Following the run, Greensboro went on to take their largest lead of the half at 31-26 following a three-pointer from Makayla Williams.
 
Pfeiffer then closed the final 1:58 on a 4-0 run to pull within one at the break, capped by a Sydni Bickford (Concord, N.C.) three-pointer with nine seconds left trim the Greensboro lead to 33-32 at halftime.
 
Following halftime, Greensboro was able to extend their lead out to 10 late in the third before going on to pull away in the fourth, limiting the Falcons to just a 1-of-11 mark from the field in the final stanza.

Pfeiffer got a team-high 13 points from Mya Johnson (Roxboro, N.C.).  Johnson also controlled five rebounds, as did teammate Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) and Johnaisha Watson (Winston-Salem, N.C.).  A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) was the only other Falcon in double-digits, as she had 10 points.

Greensboro's Nichelle Jeffries had a team-best 14 points while Lauren Jenkins had 12.  A'Liyah Woods secured a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Pride while Ashley Free managed 11 points.  Katie Lewis rounded out the double-figure scoring for the Pride with 10 points.

The loss drops the Falcons to 9-11 on the season and 6-10 in USA South play while Greensboro improves to 19-5 and 12-3 in league play.

Pfeiffer will hit the road for their final game away from Misenheimer this upcoming Saturday, Feb. 9 when they travel to Brevard for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
