Pfeiffer Women Has No Trouble With Salem in 83-52 Home Win

Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 15, 2020) – Pfeiffer University had three players notch double-digit scoring performances and forced 26 turnovers in an 83-52 USA South women's basketball win over Salem College at Merner Gym on Wednesday night.

The Falcons (7-8, 4-3) wasted little time in building the early 10-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to six points in the early stages from senior Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.).  Salem (0-14, 0-7 USA South) did break the Pfeiffer run at 5:38 on a Cayla Harris jumper, but Pfeiffer responded again, this time pushing the lead to 17-6 on a pair of Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) free throws at 1:53.

After leading 22-6 heading into the second quarter, Pfeiffer increased their lead to 32-16 at 5:17 of the second, after Bentley provided another free throw.  Salem did manage to cut into the Falcon lead when Sydney Bowen hit a three-pointer to make it 34-21 with 2:34 left.

Pfeiffer then regrouped to push the lead to 38-23 at halftime.

It was more of the same in the third quarter, as Pfeiffer asserted control of the tempo of the game, as Bentley made it 47-25 after a layup. Pfeiffer's lead would balloon to 59-32 on an Angel Roland (Monroe, N.C.) layup and another basket from Pinion.  Roland would add the final score of the quarter to put the Falcons up 61-34.

Pfeiffer's largest lead (32 points) came in the fourth quarter when Debrisha Campbell (Kannapolis, N.C.) knocked down a three-pointer at 9:46.

Pfeiffer scored 21 points after forcing 26 Spirit turnovers and scored 16 points on second-chance opportunities while winning the rebounding battle 46-43.

Pinion led all scorers with 16 points while Bentley added 15.  A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) provided 14 points in the win to round out the double-figure scorers.

All told, 11 Pfeiffer players scored and all available players saw action in the blowout win.

Three Falcon players notched career-highs on the night, with Taylor Brashers (Seattle, Wash.) scoring eight points, Campbell adding six, and Roland finishing with four points

Pfeiffer will return home to play on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2:00 p.m. against Averett University.  The game the first game in a doubleheader with the Pfeiffer men's basketball team.
