Comeback Bid Falls Short for Pfeiffer Women Against Southern Virginia
Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 13, 2023) – Visiting Southern Virginia University withstood a furious fourth quarter comeback from the Pfeiffer University and held on for a 66-60 USA South women's basketball win on Friday night at Merner Gym in Misenheimer, N.C.
With Pfeiffer trailing 52-42 in the early stages of the fourth quarter and by as many as 14 points (58-44), Pfeiffer methodically cut the Knights' lead to  63-59 following a three pointer from freshman
Hannah Isley (China Grove, N.C.). Isley would finish with seven points.
Pfeiffer had several chances to further trim the SVU lead, but was just 1-of-9 on late free throw attempts, with SVU escaping The Village with a 66-60 league win.
Sophomore
Alexis Bynum (Charlotte, N.C.) led the Falcons with 18 points and eight rebounds. She also had a pair of assists and a steal. Fellow sophomore
Tanaesha Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) had 14 points while freshman
Shania Haynes (Charlotte, N.C.) had 10 points and six rebounds.Â
Miya Horton (Lenoir, N.C.) also had a complete game, finishing with six points, six rebounds and six assists.
The loss drops Pfeiffer to 2-11 overall and 0-7 in USA South play while SVU improves to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in league games.
The Falcons will host Mary Baldwin University on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4:00 p.m. as part of a USA South doubleheader with the Pfeiffer men's team.
